This fabulous tabletop is one of two I built that were not commissions. The projects that aren't commissions just have a different feel to them while I'm building as I only have to make it so that I like it, instead of trying to guess what a buyer wants. Especially if they don't give me any feedback on what they like.
I have named these two pieces "Free Play one" and "Free Play two" as they were back to back builds on my welding table.
I start with the frame, add the lift and then install the track switches. On this one, I built the tall skinny spiral first, then the loop d loops and then the two large spinners. Again, making this one to sell instead of a commission lets me do what I want without any constraints. It's really fun to make it look however I want. My only building constraint is to keep it as narrow as possible. I originally wanted to make it 5 tracks - but decided it would be much harder to keep it narrow with 5.
